Who is Jason in GTA 6?
Jason Duval, one of the two playable leads. He worked for drug runners in the Leonida Keys after leaving the Army, and that clause is the whole of his published history.
Confirmed. Source: Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), summarising Rockstar's official bios, 18 Aug 2026. Checked .
Jason Duval's entire published biography is one sentence long, and the part of it people actually want — the Army part — is four words of that sentence. Everything below is either one of Rockstar's own sentences, with the material it came from named, or an account of what those sentences do not contain.
What has actually been said
Jason's full name is Jason Duval. Confirmed. Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), .
His name enters the record later than his co-lead's. Trailer 1 named nobody but Lucia in December 2023; the surname arrives seventeen months afterwards, with the material Rockstar published alongside Trailer 2.
Grand Theft Auto VI has two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Stated by Take-Two in the pre-order announcement, alongside the price and the editions — the most detailed product description this game has had.
Rockstar's character bio has Jason working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys after leaving the Army. Confirmed. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), summarising Rockstar's official bios, .
One sentence of official bio, and the single most heavily extrapolated phrase in this game's marketing. Everything further down this page is what it does not say.
Leonida Keys is an officially named location, described by Rockstar as a tropical archipelago. Confirmed. Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), .
It is one of the regions Rockstar named with Trailer 2, each carrying a single line of description. Where it sits in relation to anywhere else has not been published.
What has not been published
Rockstar has not said which branch or unit Jason served in, how long he served, or the circumstances under which he left. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: four words of bio — “after leaving the Army”. Would settle it: any first-party statement naming a branch, a unit, a length of service or a discharge. Absence of any first-party statement.
One clause is the entire first-party record of Jason's service. Branch, rank, unit, where he served, whether he saw combat, whether he was discharged or walked away, what he came home with: all of it is written about as though it were established, and none of it has been stated.
A detailed service history is a reliable signal that you are reading fan writing. The test is the same one that works on any claim about this cast — if a claim names somebody Jason supposedly served with, worked for or answers to, check the name against the six characters Rockstar has actually published bios for.
Rockstar has not described how Jason and Lucia met, how long they have known each other, or what the relationship between them is. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: one synopsis, describing them only as a pair. Would settle it: a first-party sentence about either of them that does not also describe the other. Absence of any first-party statement.
Rockstar's official premise: an easy score goes wrong and the pair are caught in a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida. Confirmed. Rockstar Games synopsis published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), .
That premise is stated once, for the pair, and it is the only first-party sentence that says anything about what either of them is doing. Note what it does not contain: how they met, how long they have known each other, whether one recruits the other, or what the relationship between them is. That is not a gap in our reporting — it is a gap in the material, and the Trailer 2 drop is the largest body of official material published so far.
Rockstar has not named a single voice actor. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: two fan attributions, confirmed by nobody. Would settle it: a Rockstar credit, or the performer speaking with Rockstar’s agreement. PCGamesN.
Cast lists from this studio have historically arrived at or after launch, which means the honest forecast is that this question stays blank until 19 November 2026 at the earliest. Anything that resolves it sooner will come either from a Rockstar credit or from a performer speaking with Rockstar's agreement — not from a casting-call spreadsheet or a voice comparison video. The fan attribution naming Dylan Rourke as Jason is the weaker of the two that circulate, and what it rests on has never been set out anywhere that can be checked.
Nothing has been said about campaign length, mission count, or how the two protagonists are switched between. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.
The mechanic readers most want confirmed — how the game moves you between Jason and Lucia — has not been described in any showing, and it is assumed by analogy with GTA V. An analogy is not a citation.
His appearances in official material
As of 21 August 2026 there have been two official trailers, with a third showing scheduled. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
Only one of them named him. What follows is the whole of the official trail, and the middle row is doing nearly all of the work.
| Showing | Date | What it established about Jason |
|---|---|---|
| Trailer 1 | Introduced Lucia, Vice City and the state of Leonida. No first-party naming of Jason is recorded from this showing. | |
| Trailer 2 | The name Jason Duval, his bio, the Leonida Keys as a named location, the story premise and around 70 screenshots. Nearly the whole of the record dates from this one day. | |
| An Extended Look | Scheduled, not shown. Runtime and contents have not been announced. |
What the footage actually shows
Both published showings are edited and cut to music. That is not a criticism of the trailers — it is what a trailer is — but it does mean nothing has been demonstrated about how Jason plays. No interface has been shown, and there have been no hands-on demonstrations anywhere.
Rockstar states Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Confirmed. GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes), .
In-game is a statement about where the pixels came from, not about who was driving. A full list of the published showings is on the trailers page.
Rockstar has named six supporting characters: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the rap duo Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. Confirmed. Rockstar Games character bios published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), .
Six is the whole list, which makes it the most useful test on this page: a name presented as being in Jason's orbit that is not one of those six did not come from Rockstar.
Her half of the record is on the Lucia Caminos page, the premise is unpacked on the story page, and the named supporting cast is listed on the characters index.
