Will GTA 6 run at 60fps?

Not known. No frame rate, no resolution and no list of graphics modes has been stated for any console, so 60fps is nobody's published target.

Not known. Open since 27 Jul 2026; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a stated target, or frames measured from a sustained gameplay showing. Source: Notebookcheck. Checked .

Our own night-time illustration of a neon strip after rain, unreadable glowing signage mirrored in wet asphalt, palms in silhouette and unmarked cars at the kerb.

This is not a case of a figure existing somewhere in small print. There is no first-party number to find: no frame rate, no resolution, no count of graphics modes, and no statement that a performance mode and a quality mode are separate things in this game at all. Anything you read that puts a number on it is reporting somebody else.

The two machines the game has been announced for are in the same position as each other, and the argument about them is being conducted entirely from outside Rockstar: retailer copy on one side, analysis of two trailers on the other. Both are set out below with the material each rests on.

Three machines, three blanks

Rockstar has not stated a target frame rate, a resolution, or what performance and quality modes exist on any console. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a stated target, or frames measured from a sustained gameplay showing. Notebookcheck.

Rockstar has not said whether Grand Theft Auto VI has any PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements, or what they would be. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a Rockstar or Sony statement naming a Pro enhancement, in either direction. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored).

The Rockstar-authored PlayStation.Blog post is the only first-party technical material published. It names five PS5 hardware features and mentions no Pro enhancement, no resolution and no frame rate. The "PS5 Pro Enhanced" designation people bring to this question has no first-party statement behind it, and a label is not a specification in any case. The PS5 page takes it apart at greater length.

Nothing has been said about how Grand Theft Auto VI runs on Xbox Series S, or whether it differs from Series X. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: any first-party material that distinguishes the two Xbox machines. Take-Two Interactive press release.

Every first-party platform list names Xbox Series X|S as a single entry. The two machines are not equivalent hardware, and they are always named together as one platform. Whether that means matching modes, a lower resolution on the smaller machine, or something else has not been addressed by anyone in a position to know. The absence of an Xbox feature list to set beside the PlayStation one is itself worth noticing, and it is covered on the Xbox page.

The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Those are the machines the question is about. Nothing has been published about the third, because there is no announced third.

No PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

The 60fps claim has two feet, and neither is Rockstar

Retailer listings and leaks pointing to a 60fps performance mode are unverified, and technical analysts are sceptical. Rumoured. Notebookcheck (citing Digital Foundry analysis), .

Listings pointing at a performance mode existed, and they are unverified. Which retailer carried them, what the exact wording was and when the listing changed all have no primary source behind them, so there is nothing specific left to restate. The other foot is leaked material, which describes an unfinished build rather than the shipped game — the August 2026 leaks set out what it is and is not.

It is worth being clear about what a storefront listing is as evidence. It is written and maintained by the retailer, not by the developer. A listing is evidence that somebody typed those words into a product page on a particular day. It is not a statement by Rockstar, which is why it cannot carry a grade above rumoured here.

The case against runs the opposite way, and it is not first-party either: the technical analysis reads both trailers as pointing away from 60fps even on the more powerful machine, with CPU simulation load as the likely constraint. That is an informed reading of footage by people who do this well. It is still a reading of footage, and nobody outside Rockstar has measured this game on a build, so it does not outrank the claim it disputes: both are rumoured, and for the same reason.

What "captured on PS5" does and does not mean

Rockstar states Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Confirmed. GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes), .

It means the images came out of the engine rather than a render farm. It does not mean the sequence ran at a playable frame rate, in real time, or under player control — Rockstar's own framing separates in-game from gameplay, and what has actually been shown of the latter is on the gameplay page.

Rockstar's PlayStation.Blog post names DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD load times as PS5 features the game uses. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .

Five hardware features, and not one number among them. Haptics and 3D audio tell you nothing about how many frames a second the machine draws.

As of 21 August 2026 there have been two official trailers, with a third showing scheduled. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .

Which is the other half of why nothing has been measured: two trailers and a scheduled showing are the whole of what anybody outside the studio has seen.

When a real figure could appear

"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on 27 August 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .

Take-Two described the Netflix arrangement on its earnings call as "a groundbreaking partnership" for an extended gameplay reveal. Confirmed. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool), .

A showing of sustained gameplay is the point at which analysts measure frames from the video itself, and the point at which a mode list usually appears in the accompanying material. The second occasion is , when pre-loading opens and console storefronts publish their final metadata.

Pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, one week before launch. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

The download and install size have never been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a figure on either console storefront, or the pre-load itself. Absence of any first-party statement.

That same moment is the most likely one for a dependable install size to appear, which is why the two blanks are watched together. Neither event is an announcement of a figure. They are the two occasions on which one could arrive, which is a different and more useful thing to know than a prediction. Until one of them happens there is no figure to have, for the frame rate or for the install size.

Details of the showing are on the Extended Look page, the install size question is on the file size page, and what little exists per machine is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC system requirements.
