How do you pre-order GTA 6?

At any store that sells it — the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers worldwide. Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026, and Rockstar has announced no queue, no ballot and no limit.

Our own illustration of a multi-level highway interchange curving through a city at golden hour, traffic strung along the decks and towers standing behind it.

A pre-order is not a place in a queue for scarce stock. The game is a download in every edition, including the boxed one, so there is no quantity to run out and nothing that rewards ordering early rather than ordering at all.

The announced terms

Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 at midnight local time. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Pre-orders are available through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers worldwide. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Only two editions have been announced: Standard and Ultimate. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

The Standard Edition is $79.99 in the United States. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

The Ultimate Edition is $99.99 in the United States. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

What each of those two buys, item by item, is on Standard and Ultimate, and the argument about the entry price is on the price page.

The bonus, and the cut-off attached to it

This is the part most pages get wrong. There are two separate inducements, they have different conditions, and only one of them has anything to do with pre-ordering.

Every purchase made before 20 November 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Digital pre-orders include a redeemable free month of GTA+. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

The headline bonus is not a pre-order exclusive at all: it is a launch-window bonus with a deadline of 20 November 2026, the day after release. Somebody who buys on release day gets the same pack as somebody who bought in June. The genuinely pre-order-shaped incentive is the GTA+ month, and it is attached to digital purchases rather than to a price tier.

Rockstar has published no itemised list of what is in the Vintage Vice City Pack, so nobody outside the company can say what the pack actually contains. No limit on copies per buyer has been announced either.

Digital against boxed

The box holds no game data. It holds a code, and it reaches shops a week before the game does.

What differs Digital Boxed
What arrives A license on the account that bought it A download code in a box, not a disc
Orderable since 25 June 2026 25 June 2026, at participating retailers
In hand from Pre-load on 12 November 2026 Boxes reach shops on 12 November 2026
Free month of GTA+ Included, redeemable immediately Not stated by Rockstar
Vintage Vice City Pack Any purchase before 20 November 2026 Any purchase before 20 November 2026
Download required Yes, in full Yes, in full — the box holds no game data

The physical boxed edition contains a download code, not a disc. Confirmed. Push Square, .

Boxed copies go on sale on 12 November 2026 so buyers can pre-load. Confirmed. Game Informer, .

Pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, one week before launch. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Boxes are on shelves a week early precisely so a code can be redeemed in time to pre-load, which tells you how the boxed edition is meant to be used: as a gift or a shelf object, not as a way to avoid the download. An early wave of retailer listings said otherwise and was wrong.

Claims that the boxed edition includes a playable disc are wrong. Debunked. Push Square, .

Anyone hoping a disc arrives later should read the two claims on the boxed edition — one is debunked outright, the other is a rumour with no announcement behind it.

The two figures that would make pre-load plannable

Both are missing, and every number in circulation for either is somebody's estimate. Each is set out below with the day the question opened and the thing that would close it.

Rockstar has not announced what time the game unlocks on 19 November 2026. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a store listing switching to a timed release, or a Newswire post in launch week. Absence of any first-party statement.

The download and install size have never been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a size on the PlayStation or Microsoft store listing, most likely when pre-load opens. Absence of any first-party statement.

Rockstar's announcement attaches pre-loading to a date rather than to how early a copy was bought: it says pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, and says nothing about an early order earning an earlier download. Both figures are tracked on file size and on unlock time and pre-load. The download size is the one most likely to be published first, since storefronts have to show it before pre-load can begin.

How many pre-orders are there?

Take-Two has not published a pre-order unit count or dollar figure. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: Two adjectives from Take-Two — unprecedented, astonishing — and no figure. Would settle it: a unit or dollar number in a Take-Two results release or filing. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool).

Zelnick called GTA VI pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing", at levels "no one's ever seen before at Take-Two or in the industry". Confirmed. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool), .

That is real, it is first-party, and it is not a number — and the chief executive qualified it himself in the same appearance. It is also the most confidently reported statistic in the whole subject, and nobody who would actually know has published one.

Analyst data suggests about 89% of early pre-orders were for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. Rumoured. Sensor Tower via TechRadar / GamesIndustry.biz, .

The 89% split between the two editions is the figure most often quoted as though Rockstar had published it. It is an analyst's estimate over a set of markets, its own author expects it to fall, and it is graded here for what it is.

Cancelling and refunds

The one first-party statement on the subject came from Take-Two's own chief executive, and it was made to reassure investors rather than buyers. Beyond it the record stops: Rockstar has published no cancellation or refund policy of its own, and the terms that actually govern a cancellation are the ones attached to the store the order was placed with — which differ by storefront, by country and by whether a pre-load has already been started. The store you bought from is the only place those terms exist.

One consequence of the dates above is worth spelling out, because it follows from Rockstar's own wording. The bonus pack is tied to the purchase, not to the pre-order, and its deadline is 20 November 2026 — so cancelling now and buying again before that date does not forfeit it. The GTA+ month, tied to digital pre-orders, is the part a cancellation puts at risk.

Every term above is set by Rockstar or by an individual storefront, and any of them can change without an announcement — which is why each one is dated to the document it came from. The two worth carrying away are that the headline bonus is not a pre-order exclusive, and that the box on the shelf contains a code.
