Who do you play as in GTA 6?

Eight names exist. Two of them are the people you play as, six of them have a paragraph of official biography each, and there is no ninth. Every larger GTA 6 cast list in circulation was assembled from somewhere other than Rockstar, and the count is the quickest way to tell.

The two you play as

Grand Theft Auto VI has two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, 24 Jun 2026.

Both surnames arrived with Trailer 2 in May 2025, each attached to a short official bio. Those bios are the whole of what Rockstar has said about who these two people are.

Lucia is the first female playable protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game. Confirmed. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), 18 Aug 2026.

That is a statement about the series rather than about the character. Nothing has been described about how she differs from any previous lead, in writing or in play.

Everyone else who has been named

Rockstar has named six supporting characters: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the rap duo Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. Confirmed. Rockstar Games character bios published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), 6 May 2025.

That list is closed, which makes it the most useful test on this page: a name that is not one of those six did not come from Rockstar. Each has a short bio and nothing more.

No supporting character’s role in the story has been stated. Not known. Open since 6 May 2025; statements to cite: six bios, none of which gives a character a plot function. Would settle it: a Rockstar character page, or a showing, that states what one of the six does in the story. Absence of any first-party statement.

Every "girlfriend", "handler" or "main antagonist" label attached to those names in circulation was assigned by a reader working from a trailer. A name in a bio and a face in a trailer are two different pieces of evidence, and only the first is recorded here. This site does not count seconds of screen time or infer importance from them, because that is a reading of a cinematic edit rather than a statement about the game.

No character from an earlier Grand Theft Auto game has been named as returning in GTA VI. Not known. Because the game returns to Vice City, a long list of returning characters circulates on the strength of the setting alone. None of it traces back to Rockstar. A setting is not a cast list, and "it would make sense" is not a source. What exists is an absence rather than a denial, and it is recorded as one.

Who plays them

Manni L. Perez is widely believed by fans to voice Lucia, on resemblance and interview hints alone. Rumoured. PCGamesN, 4 Jun 2026.

That is the only attribution with anything behind it at all, and it is rumoured because resemblance and interview readings are exactly as strong as rumour. Rockstar has historically revealed a cast at or after launch, which puts the earliest plausible moment for any of this to become confirmed at release itself, 19 November 2026, rather than at any point before it. That is a reading of precedent and not an announcement.

How the game hands them to you

Nothing has been said about campaign length, mission count, or how the two protagonists are switched between. Not known. Open since 24 Jun 2026; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

The mechanic every reader assumes — switching between the two leads at will — has never been described by anybody who would know. It is assumed by analogy with GTA V, and an analogy is not a citation.

Where the longer cast lists come from

Most large GTA 6 cast lists have one of two origins. Some are extrapolations from the trailers — a face given a name because a fan wiki needed one. Others come from material taken out of Rockstar without permission, in 2022 and again in August 2026.

On 18 September 2022 a hacker posted about 90 videos of work-in-progress GTA VI footage, roughly 50 minutes of material, to GTAForums. Confirmed. Axios, 19 Sept 2022.

Names lifted from a work-in-progress build are not evidence about the finished game even when the material is genuine: development names change, characters are cut, and nothing in a stolen build was ever presented as final. This site neither hosts that material nor treats it as a source, so no name from it appears anywhere above.
