What has been shown of GTA 6?

Two trailers and about seventy screenshots. There has been no hands-on session, no press preview and no trade-show demonstration, and nobody outside Rockstar has played a minute of it.

Confirmed. Source: Rockstar Games Newswire, 6 Aug 2026. Checked .

Our own night-time illustration of a neon strip after rain, unreadable glowing signage mirrored in wet asphalt, palms in silhouette and unmarked cars at the kerb.

"GTA 6 gameplay" is a search term served almost entirely by feature lists, and the lists blend four different registers into one voice: what has been shown in official footage, what Rockstar has described in writing, what has been attributed to material taken out of the studio, and what nobody with knowledge has ever mentioned. The last of those is by far the largest category, and it is the one no feature list prints.

The whole body of official material

As of 21 August 2026 there have been two official trailers, with a third showing scheduled. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .

Trailer 1 was released on 4 December 2023. Confirmed. The Washington Post, .

Trailer 2 was released on 6 May 2025, four days after the first delay. Confirmed. GTABase, .

Rockstar published around 70 screenshots and new character and location pages alongside Trailer 2. Confirmed. GTABase, .

That is the complete list of first-party material any claim about how this game plays could rest on: two videos, one screenshot drop, and a showing that has not aired. Nearly three years after the first trailer there has been no hands-on event, no press preview and no trade-show demonstration of any kind.

Rockstar states Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Confirmed. GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes), .

That note is the most over-read sentence in this game's marketing. It establishes that the engine renders those frames on retail hardware and establishes nothing about what a player can do with it. No heads-up display, no control prompts, no menu and no mission structure has appeared in any published material.

"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on 27 August 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .

Take-Two described the Netflix arrangement on its earnings call as "a groundbreaking partnership" for an extended gameplay reveal. Confirmed. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool), .

That earnings-call phrasing is the closest thing to a first-party statement that the third showing contains play rather than another cut-to-music edit. It is a description offered to investors, not a specification, and it is graded accordingly.

What Rockstar has described in writing

This is the part that is genuinely confirmed, and it is six sentences long. All of it comes from the pre-order announcement, the PlayStation.Blog post Rockstar wrote itself, and the synopsis published with Trailer 2.

Rockstar's own pre-order materials, the PlayStation Store listing and the PlayStation.Blog post all describe Grand Theft Auto VI as a "single-player experience". Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .

The storefront listing, the pre-order materials and Rockstar's own blog post all use that phrase, consistently enough that a launch-day online mode is contradicted by it rather than merely unannounced. The argument is set out on the online page.

Grand Theft Auto VI has two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Rockstar's official premise: an easy score goes wrong and the pair are caught in a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida. Confirmed. Rockstar Games synopsis published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase), .

The game is set in the fictional US state of Leonida. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .

Rockstar's PlayStation.Blog post names DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD load times as PS5 features the game uses. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .

That last one is the only first-party technical detail published so far, and it describes the controller rather than the game. Nothing has been said about a frame rate, a resolution or a performance mode on any console.

Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition as adding "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story". Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .

Six entries. That is the whole of the written record on how this game plays, and every longer account of it is drawing on something else.

What is attributed to material taken out of the studio

Two bodies of unofficial material sit behind most circulating feature lists. This site describes both and reproduces neither: writing about a leak is commentary, hosting one is infringement.

On 18 September 2022 a hacker posted about 90 videos of work-in-progress GTA VI footage, roughly 50 minutes of material, to GTAForums. Confirmed. Axios, .

On 18 August 2026 a group calling itself CyberLeek posted material it claimed came from Grand Theft Auto VI, including footage and an image said to be the Leonida map. Rumoured. GameSpot, .

Rockstar has issued no public statement about the August 2026 leak. Confirmed. Den of Geek, .

Material of that kind carries two problems at once. Authenticity is unestablished for the 2026 material, and even where footage is genuine — as it was in 2022 — a work-in-progress build from years before release is not a description of the shipping game. A mechanic that rests on it is at best rumoured; nothing resting on it is confirmed. The whole sequence is set out on the August 2026 leaks page.

The widely repeated figure of "700+ enterable buildings" has no first-party source. Rumoured. Circulated by fan and aggregator sites, .

Claims that an online mode ships alongside the game on 19 November 2026 are unsupported. Debunked. GamesRadar+, .

Those two are the shapes the problem usually takes: a number that has detached from any source at all and now travels as a fact, and a claim that first-party material has actually contradicted. The first is unsupported; the second is wrong, and the difference between them is worth keeping.

What the four registers can establish

Everything above belongs to one of four categories, and a reader who can tell them apart can grade any GTA 6 feature list on sight. They are genuinely different in what they prove.

Register What exists What it establishes
Shown in official footage Two trailers, about 70 screenshots That the engine renders it. Not that it is a mechanic, and not that a player controls it.
Described by Rockstar in text Six statements The strongest evidence available. This is what confirmed means here.
Attributed to unverified material Two bodies of it, 2022 and 2026 At most that somebody claims it. A work-in-progress build is not the shipping game, so nothing sourced here reaches confirmed.
Never mentioned by anyone The largest category Nothing at all. Anything filling one of these is filling it with a guess.

What nobody with knowledge has mentioned

These are published answers rather than gaps in the research. Each has a date it went unanswered, a note of what has actually been said, and a condition that would end it.

Nothing has been said about campaign length, mission count, or how the two protagonists are switched between. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

Nothing has been shown being played. A cinematic frame showing a character doing something is evidence about a cutscene, not about a verb the player is given, and the distance between those two is the distance between what has been shown and what the feature lists claim. Character switching between Jason and Lucia sits inside the same blank: assumed by analogy with GTA V, never described. How long any of it takes is on how long the game is.

Rockstar has not stated a target frame rate, a resolution, or what performance and quality modes exist on any console. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Notebookcheck.

The size of the map has never been stated. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

No radio stations, licensed soundtrack or in-game music details have been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

Three questions readers ask constantly, with no figure, no window and no "more to come" attached to any of them. The radio stations in particular are treated as settled across the web on the strength of two trailer tracks, and trailer music is not in-game music.

Nothing has been said about in-game purchases or monetisation in the single-player game. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

The pre-order announcement is the fullest description of this product anybody has published, and it names two editions, two prices, a bonus pack and a free month of GTA+. It says nothing at all about spending money inside the game.

No expansions, story DLC, season pass or post-launch content plan has been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

Nothing is known about crossplay or cross-progression. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.

Take-Two has said that support for the existing GTA Online continues after this game ships. It has said nothing about what, if anything, follows Grand Theft Auto VI itself — a different question, with the answer that nobody has stated one. Crossplay sits behind the same wall: with no announced multiplayer mode there is nothing for it to apply to.

The runtime and exact contents of the Extended Look have not been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Video Games Chronicle.

On 27 August 2026 the first-party record grows for the first time in over a year. If it is narrated play, a great deal of what is now unanswered becomes answerable in a single afternoon — and some widely circulated claims will be contradicted outright rather than merely left unsupported.

Each question has its own page: an online mode, the story, how long it is, the vehicles, the police, the world and its side activities, the soundtrack and how it compares with GTA V.
