Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. Every first-party platform list has been current-generation only, and no later port has been suggested.
Confirmed. Source: Take-Two Interactive press release, 24 Jun 2026. Checked .
This is the one platform question with a definite answer, and it is worth saying plainly before anything else: an older console is not a way into this game, and there is nothing here to wait for.
The answer, and how it is graded
There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Note how that is graded. It is confirmed, but confirmed as an absence: no first-party document says "there will be no PS4 version", because companies do not usually publish the platforms they are not shipping on. What they publish is the list, and the list is current-generation only, on every surface, every time.
The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Two machines, named in one press release, and there has never been a third.
Every machine, and what its row rests on
"Not confirmed" is four different conditions wearing one phrase, and reading them one under another is the fastest way to see it. Only the last row is genuinely open.
| Machine | Where it stands |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Announced. On the first-party list from the day it was published. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Announced. One list entry, covering both machines. |
| PlayStation 4 | No version. Absent from every first-party platform list, all of which are current-generation only. |
| Xbox One | No version, on the same evidence and for the same reason. |
| PC | Not announced. Absent from the same lists, with no denial attached. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Not announced, and explicitly not committed to either way. |
| A later last-generation port | Nothing said, in either direction. This is the only genuine blank on the page. |
Could a port come later?
No first-party statement of any kind exists about a later PlayStation 4 or Xbox One port — not a promise, not a refusal. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: any first-party statement at all — an announcement, or a refusal. Take-Two Interactive press release.
Nobody with authority has said a last-generation port will happen, and nobody with authority has said it will not. That is a genuine blank, and it is the row every reader is actually looking for.
No PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Those two are the strongest thing that can be said about it. Rockstar has not announced a PC version of a game arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. A company that will not confirm PC — the platform its own history makes most likely — is not a company that has quietly committed to a console two generations back.
Nothing has been said about cloud streaming, remote play, or any other way of running Grand Theft Auto VI on hardware it was not announced for. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a named service, announced by Rockstar or by a platform holder. Take-Two Interactive press release.
Rockstar has named no streaming service, no cloud tier and no remote-play arrangement. Anyone telling you a PS4 will play this over the internet is describing something no one has announced.
Why the last generation was left behind
Rockstar has given no reasoning, so there is none to report. What there is instead is the only published technical material, and it points one way.
Rockstar's PlayStation.Blog post names DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD load times as PS5 features the game uses. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .
That is a game built around hardware the PS4 and Xbox One do not have: a controller that shipped with the PS5, an audio engine tied to it, and load times tied to a solid-state drive. It is not proof an older machine could not run some reduced version. It is evidence about what the game was designed against.
Rockstar has not stated a target frame rate, a resolution, or what performance and quality modes exist on any console. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a per-console technical breakdown, or press hands-on time. Notebookcheck.
Retailer listings and leaks pointing to a 60fps performance mode are unverified, and technical analysts are sceptical. Rumoured. Notebookcheck (citing Digital Foundry analysis), .
The performance question on the announced machines points the same way. A game whose frame rate on a PS5 Pro is a live argument among technical analysts is not a game with obvious headroom on hardware two generations older. Read that as context, not as a calculation: nobody outside Rockstar has run this code on anything, and frame rate and resolution sets out how little has actually been said.
Does GTA 5 set a precedent?
The argument you will meet is that Grand Theft Auto V spanned console generations, so this one will too. Two things are wrong with it, and the second is decisive.
Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015, a gap of about 19 months. Confirmed. PCGamesN, .
The first objection is that those two dates are the whole of what is dated about that release. They describe a console-to-PC gap, not a jump between console generations, and a gap between generations is what the argument actually needs.
The second objection does not depend on the first: precedent is not evidence. What one game did in the years after its launch tells you nothing about what another game will do, and if it did, the same reasoning would produce a PC version with a date on it — which does not exist either.
