What platforms is GTA 6 on?
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, on 19 November 2026. Those two machines are the whole first-party platform list, and nothing has been added to it since.
Confirmed. Source: Take-Two Interactive press release, 24 Jun 2026. Checked .
Two machines have a date. Everything else people ask about — PC, Switch 2, the last generation, the frame rate, the install size, playing with a friend on the other console — is either unannounced or ruled out, and those are not the same condition. This page holds the whole platform record in one place and keeps the differences between the gaps.
The two machines that have a date
The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
That is the complete first-party list. It appeared in one press release, it names two entries rather than four machines — Xbox Series X|S covers both Xbox consoles, and a PlayStation 5 Pro is a PlayStation 5 — and nothing has been added to it since. No leak, no retailer listing and no podcast has ever put a third machine on it.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on Thursday, 19 November 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
The same day on both, with no exclusivity, no timed window and no separate date for either platform. The pricing announcement names one United States figure per edition and draws no distinction between the two consoles either.
Pre-orders are available through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers worldwide. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, one week before launch. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Those two together are the whole of what is settled about getting the game onto a machine: where it is sold, and the date from which it can start downloading. Everything after this heading is a gap of one kind or another.
What has been said about the hardware
Rockstar's PlayStation.Blog post names DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD load times as PS5 features the game uses. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .
Read it for what it is — a list of platform capabilities the game makes use of. It is not a specification, it contains no number, and it is nonetheless the only first-party technical detail published about this game on any machine. No Xbox equivalent exists, which is worth noticing precisely because it says nothing about how the game runs: it tells you where a promotional post was placed. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S carry the rest, which is not much.
The one platform question that is closed
There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Note how that is graded. It is confirmed, but confirmed as an absence: no first-party document says "there will be no PS4 version", because companies publish the platforms they are shipping on rather than the ones they are not. What they publish is the list, and the list is current-generation only, on every surface, every time. There is nothing here to wait for — the full argument is on the PS4 and Xbox One page.
PC: open, with a precedent behind it
No PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
There is no PC release date. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a Newswire post naming a PC storefront. Absence of any first-party statement.
No PC system requirements have been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a minimum and recommended specification on a storefront listing. Absence of any first-party statement.
An eventual PC release is a reasonable expectation on precedent. It is not an announcement, and the difference matters the moment somebody quotes you a date.
A claim that the PC version targets February 2027 comes from anonymous ex-employees contacted on LinkedIn. Rumoured. Insider Gaming, .
Former employees do not have visibility of a schedule they are no longer on, so even a sincere account is describing something last seen before they left. The February 2027 figure is repeated widely, and this is where it came from.
Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015, a gap of about 19 months. Confirmed. PCGamesN, .
That is the only dated precedent there is, and it is worth exactly what a precedent is worth: it says what happened once, to a different game, in a different decade. Adding it to the console date is arithmetic rather than evidence, and half the PC dates in circulation are that sum with a confident sentence wrapped around it. The PC version and the system requirements take both apart at length.
Switch 2: open, with a non-commitment attached
No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Strauss Zelnick said Take-Two would support Switch 2 generally but decides platforms "on a case-by-case basis" and "would not necessarily bring every title to every platform". Confirmed. Forbes, .
Read that once more: the publisher will support the console, and will decide title by title. It is a company keeping an option open, not a promise, and it is misquoted as a promise constantly — headlines compressed it to a pledge of Switch 2 support and readers finished the sentence with the game they cared about.
Reports that Rockstar has run internal Switch 2 tests are second-hand and unconfirmed. Rumoured. GameSpot, .
Claims that GTA VI is confirmed for Switch 2 are false. Debunked. GameSpot, .
The false one is struck through rather than dropped: it is contradicted by Rockstar's own platform list, and it goes on circulating anyway. The Switch 2 question has the rest.
Three absences, three different rules
"Not announced" is not the same as "not happening", and neither is the same as "ruled out". Collapsing the three into a single unconfirmed is how a reader ends up waiting for a port that does not exist, so they are set out side by side.
| The machine | What the record actually says |
|---|---|
| PC | Open, with a strong precedent behind it and nothing said. No PC release, date or storefront has ever been named; the studio's own history makes a port likely. Likely is not announced. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Open, with an explicit non-commitment attached. The publisher supports the console in general and decides titles case by case. |
| PlayStation 4 and Xbox One | Closed. Every first-party platform list is current-generation only, and no last-generation version has ever appeared in one. |
How it runs, and how much room it needs
Rockstar has not stated a target frame rate, a resolution, or what performance and quality modes exist on any console. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a per-console technical breakdown, or press hands-on time. Notebookcheck.
Retailer listings and leaks pointing to a 60fps performance mode are unverified, and technical analysts are sceptical. Rumoured. Notebookcheck (citing Digital Foundry analysis), .
Neither side of that argument is first-party. Retailer listings are written by retailers, and an analyst reading two trailers is an informed reading of footage rather than a measurement — nobody outside Rockstar has run this code on anything. Frame rate and resolution sets out both feet of the claim.
The download and install size have never been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a figure on either console storefront, or the pre-load itself. Absence of any first-party statement.
Neither storefront listing carries a figure. The first dependable number will be the one your own console reports when pre-loading opens on 12 Nov 2026, one week before launch — that is the practical answer to "when do I need the space free by", and it is tracked on the file size page.
Playing together, and playing without buying
Nothing is known about crossplay or cross-progression. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: an announced online mode, then a statement that its sessions are shared. Absence of any first-party statement.
This one is empty for a structural reason rather than a secretive one. Crossplay is a property of a multiplayer mode, and no online mode has been announced, so the question has no subject yet. That, rather than "no", is the honest answer — crossplay and cross-progression explains what would have to happen first.
No cloud, streaming or subscription availability has been announced for Grand Theft Auto VI. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a named service, from Rockstar or from the service itself. Take-Two Interactive press release.
The pre-order announcement enumerates every channel the game is sold through — the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers worldwide. No streaming service, subscription catalogue or cloud platform appears in it, or in any other first-party material. Every announced route to this game is a purchase for a console.
How platform announcements have been made
The shape has been consistent from the beginning. The announcement that started it named nothing at all: on Rockstar confirmed that the next Grand Theft Auto was in development, and named no game, no date and no platform. Over four years later the list appeared, complete, in a press release on , and it has not moved since.
Every platform statement this game has ever had came from Rockstar or Take-Two directly — the Newswire, a press release or a filing, or a post Rockstar wrote for a platform holder's own blog. That gives a short and honest test for anything you read: if a platform claim does not trace to one of those, it is not confirmation, however many outlets repeat it. The history of the dates themselves is on the delay history.
Each question above is answered at length on its own page: the PC version, PC system requirements, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4 and Xbox One, frame rate and resolution, download and install size and crossplay.
