How many GB will GTA 6 be?
Not known. No download or install size has ever been published — not by Rockstar, and not on either console storefront.
Not known. Open since 24 Jun 2026; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a figure on either console storefront, or the pre-load itself. Source: Absence of any first-party statement. Checked .
There is no first-party number and no storefront number. There is not even a partial one: no "approximately", no minimum free space, no per-platform breakdown. If you are clearing a console today you are working without the figure, and every page that hands you one is handing you somebody's arithmetic.
What is actually missing
The download and install size have never been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a figure on either console storefront — or the pre-load, which produces one whether or not anybody publishes it. Absence of any first-party statement.
It is worth seeing how little has been said about the technical side of this game at all. One feature list exists, for one console, and it is about controllers and audio rather than storage.
Rockstar's PlayStation.Blog post names DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD load times as PS5 features the game uses. Confirmed. PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), .
Rockstar has not stated a target frame rate, a resolution, or what performance and quality modes exist on any console. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a per-console technical breakdown, or press hands-on time. Notebookcheck.
What is settled is the deadline
Pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, one week before launch. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
A pre-load cannot happen without a download, so a real figure exists — on your own console, whether or not anybody publishes it — from that date. That is one week before release, and it is the practical answer to the question this page is asked: the space has to be free by .
The physical boxed edition contains a download code, not a disc. Confirmed. Push Square, .
So there is no way to skip the download by buying it in a shop. Every buyer on every announced platform downloads the whole game.
Where the real figure appears, and when
The number will not arrive in an announcement. It appears in the product metadata on the storefront you buy from, because that is the only place it is operationally required — a console has to know what it is about to write to disk before it starts.
Pre-orders are available through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers worldwide. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
Those listings went up with the pre-order announcement on . Neither carried an install size then and neither has gained one since. The next dated moment is , when pre-loading opens and a real figure exists on your own machine. The one after that is launch on : what lands is the certified package plus a day-one patch, and the free space needed while a console unpacks and applies a patch is larger again than the finished install.
Why an estimate from another game measures nothing
Install size is not a property of ambition, it is a property of packaging decisions: how much audio is shipped for how many languages, how many texture sets are stored uncompressed so they can be streamed quickly, how aggressively the build is packed against how fast it has to load. Those decisions are made late, they are made inside the studio, and none of them has been described for this game.
So an estimate extrapolated from another open-world title is not measuring this game. It is measuring somebody else's compression settings and assuming this one will make the same calls. The 120GB to 200GB range is an estimate from commentators, and that extrapolation is the usual method behind it. A range that cannot be wrong is not telling you anything.
No expansions, story DLC, season pass or post-launch content plan has been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: an announced expansion, story pack or season pass. Absence of any first-party statement.
No online or multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced. Confirmed. GamesRadar+, .
Both matter here because an online component is historically the part of a game most likely to grow an install after launch, and neither has been announced for this one. Nothing published describes what languages ship, how textures are packed, or how large a day-one patch will be.
What has been published, per platform
Nothing separates one console from another. Both announced machines have a version and neither has a size; only PlayStation 5 has any technical detail attached to it at all, and that detail is a feature list rather than a figure.
The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive press release, .
No PC system requirements have been published. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a minimum and recommended specification on a storefront listing. Absence of any first-party statement.
The PC picture is emptier still, and for a reason that runs the other way round: no system requirements have been published because no PC version has been announced, and a storage figure is part of a specification nobody has written.
Two numbers, not one
When a figure does appear it may well appear twice, because PlayStation and Microsoft publish their own storefront metadata independently. Two different numbers for the same game would not be a contradiction; the difference between them is itself information about how the build is packaged for each machine. The figure to plan around is whichever one your own console reports.
Adjacent: unlock time and pre-load, which carries the same 12 November date from the other direction, and the platform pages for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
