Which GTA 6 rumours hold up?

None of the sixteen. Each one rests on an outlet, an anonymous source or an outside estimate — not one of them on a sentence from Rockstar.

Confirmed. Source: Absence of any first-party statement, 13 Sept 2026. Checked .

A rendered scene of ours: flat cattle pasture crossed by a wire fence, scattered palms along it and towering cumulus stacked over all of it at golden hour.

A claim is listed here when it is widely repeated and not established — a deliberately low bar, so that anything you have just seen and want to trace is likely to be on it. Sixteen claims currently meet it, the oldest of them still standing since .

Nothing here is graded on how plausible it sounds. A claim that reads as obviously true and has no first-party sentence behind it stays at Rumoured; a claim that reads as unlikely and has one is Confirmed. Each entry below carries the outlet it can be traced to and the date that outlet published it — which in several cases is an outlet relaying somebody else relaying an anonymous source.

Dates, platforms and editions

The three claims people ask about most are about things Rockstar has simply never mentioned: a PC version, a Nintendo console, and a box with a disc in it. In each case the absence of a statement is doing all the work, and each has been filled in by somebody else.

A claim that the PC version targets February 2027 comes from anonymous ex-employees contacted on LinkedIn. Rumoured. Insider Gaming, .

Former employees do not have visibility of a schedule they are no longer on, so even a sincere account is describing something last seen before they left. It is recorded rather than deleted because it is repeated widely enough that a reader who has met it deserves to find out where it came from. The full position is on the PC page.

Reports that Rockstar has run internal Switch 2 tests are second-hand and unconfirmed. Rumoured. GameSpot, .

A report that a true disc-based edition will ship in December 2026 is unverified and has not been announced. Rumoured. GameLuster (relaying PPE.pl / leaker "Graczdari"), .

That last one is third-hand — a Polish outlet relaying a leaker, relayed again in English — and no amount of repeating it moves it any closer to the company. Take-Two has announced no disc edition. What it has announced is a boxed edition containing a download code, which is a different product and is the reason the disc claim keeps finding an audience.

The August 2026 leak wave

Material was posted on 18 August 2026 and Take-Two moved against it legally. Both of those are on the record and neither is listed here. What is listed is the part nobody can establish: what the material actually is, and why it was posted.

On 18 August 2026 a group calling itself CyberLeek posted material it claimed came from Grand Theft Auto VI, including footage and an image said to be the Leonida map. Rumoured. GameSpot, .

CyberLeek published a manifesto framing the leak as a protest against digital-only distribution and game monetisation, alongside promotion of a cryptocurrency token. Rumoured. Forbes, .

A stated motive is a claim by the leaker about the leaker, and the cryptocurrency promotion published alongside it is a reason to treat that claim carefully rather than to repeat it. The whole episode, including what Take-Two has actually done about it, is on the August 2026 leaks page.

A figure of $5 million and thousands of staff hours for Rockstar to recover from the 2022 breach has been reported but not published by Take-Two directly. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .

Money, forecasts and pre-orders

Money attracts the largest numbers in circulation and the fewest that come from the company. Take-Two does not break out per-title costs, so every budget figure in circulation is somebody standing outside the building with a calculator.

The often-quoted $1–2 billion development and marketing budget has never been confirmed by Take-Two. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .

Analyst first-year forecasts range widely, including DFC Intelligence's $3.2 billion on 40 million copies and Niko Partners' $1.2 billion first-day figure. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .

Analyst data suggests about 89% of early pre-orders were for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. Rumoured. Sensor Tower via TechRadar / GamesIndustry.biz, .

The pre-order split is the strongest entry in this group and it is still not confirmation. It is real measurement of real transactions by a firm that does this for a living, covering the United States and five European markets, and its own analyst expects the share to fall as launch approaches. What it is not is a Rockstar or Take-Two number, and the method behind it is not published. That combination is exactly what Rumoured means here.

The world, the map and the cast

The setting claims are the ones most often repeated as though they were confirmed, and two of the three below are repeated by people who would tell you, if asked, that they were reading an inference.

Leonida is understood to be modelled on Florida, but Rockstar has never said so. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .

The widely repeated figure of "700+ enterable buildings" has no first-party source. Rumoured. Circulated by fan and aggregator sites, .

The enterable-buildings figure is the purest case of repetition being mistaken for evidence. It has no origin anybody can name. It is quoted as a specification, it appears in listicles as a bullet point, and Rockstar has published no such number in any form. What has actually been named about the world is on the Leonida page.

Manni L. Perez is widely believed by fans to voice Lucia, on resemblance and interview hints alone. Rumoured. PCGamesN, .

How it runs, how it is rated, and why it moved

The last group is technical, regulatory and about the two delays. All four are inferences drawn by people who are good at drawing them, which is what makes them durable.

Retailer listings and leaks pointing to a 60fps performance mode are unverified, and technical analysts are sceptical. Rumoured. Notebookcheck (citing Digital Foundry analysis), .

An MA15+ entry for GTA VI on the Australian Classification database is disputed and probably an IARC self-assessment rather than a board decision. Rumoured. PCGamesN, .

Chatter that an online component arrives within about a month of launch is unattributed. Rumoured. Circulated by fan and aggregator sites, .

The claim that the second delay was caused by the October 2025 dismissals is inference from timing. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .

On that last one the timing is genuinely suggestive and the inference is genuinely unsupported. Rockstar's stated reason for the second delay was polish; neither company has linked the delay to the October 2025 dismissals; and a page that turns a sequence of dates into a cause is writing fiction with a bibliography. The delay record itself is on every delay, in order.

What a source is worth

A track record is worth less than it is usually treated as being. An account that was right about a date once has not thereby acquired access; it has acquired an audience. What separates the kinds of source below is whether the person making the claim was in a position to know, and whether anybody else can check.

Kind of source Example What it is worth
First-party statement Rockstar Newswire, a Take-Two press release Enough on its own to grade a claim Confirmed.
Regulatory or investor material Take-Two filings and earnings calls Confirmed. Expensive to get wrong, so rarely loose.
Outlet quoting a named person Reporting on the boxed edition and on platform support Confirmed when the person quoted is first-party; Rumoured otherwise.
Third-party measurement Analyst estimates of the pre-order edition split Rumoured. Real data, undisclosed method, not the publisher's own number.
Technical analysis Frame-rate readings taken off the trailers Rumoured. Informed inference is still inference.
Anonymous insider The February 2027 PC date, sourced to ex-employees Rumoured at best. Unverifiable, and former staff do not have current schedules.
Aggregator repetition The enterable-buildings figure Nothing. Repetition is not evidence, however many sites do it.

The last two rows carry most of what circulates about this game, which is why so little of it can be graded any higher than Rumoured. The full definitions are on the four grades, and what counts as evidence at all is on the source policy.

Fabrications, hoaxes and AI-generated material

No specific AI-generated GTA VI fake can be named here, and that is not an oversight: naming one takes a source for the material and a source for the finding that it was fabricated, and on the fakes in circulation neither exists. An unsourced accusation of fakery is worth no more than the unsourced claim it attacks. What can be sourced is narrower and more useful.

On 18 September 2022 a hacker posted about 90 videos of work-in-progress GTA VI footage, roughly 50 minutes of material, to GTAForums. Confirmed. Axios, .

Take-Two has pursued DMCA takedowns and court filings seeking account records over the August 2026 leak. Confirmed. GameSpot, .

Rockstar has issued no public statement about the August 2026 leak. Confirmed. Den of Geek, .

Those three together are the whole shape of the problem. Material that was genuine was established as genuine because Rockstar said so within a day. Material posted in August 2026 has had no such statement, so its authenticity is unestablished — not proven, not disproven — and it stays at Rumoured until that changes. Takedown activity is a legal reflex, not an authentication.

Trailer 1 had been scheduled for 5 December 2023 at 9am ET and was brought forward after a watermarked copy leaked on X. Confirmed. Forbes, .

That is the one time on record that a leak changed what the publisher did, and the change was a trailer arriving a day early. Everything else attributed to a breach has moved the date of nothing.

Claims that keep returning after being contradicted

Four claims have been contradicted outright by first-party material and are still repeated. They are kept visible, struck through, so the correction stays findable rather than quietly disappearing. The struck line is the claim as it circulates; the line under it is what the record actually says.

The game slips again, into 2027. Debunked. Dexerto, .

Claims in mid-2026 that the game would slip again into 2027 have no first-party backing. Circulated by YouTube and social-media "insiders". Contradicted by Take-Two reaffirming 19 November 2026 on 21 May 2026 and again on 7 August 2026.

GTA VI is confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. Debunked. GameSpot, .

Claims that GTA VI is confirmed for Switch 2 are false. Contradicted by Rockstar's own platform list, which names only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The boxed edition contains a playable disc. Debunked. Push Square, .

Claims that the boxed edition includes a playable disc are wrong. Contradicted by Rockstar's own product description. Recorded because retailer listings early on implied a disc.

An online mode ships alongside the game on 19 November 2026. Debunked. GamesRadar+, .

Claims that an online mode ships alongside the game on 19 November 2026 are unsupported. Contradicted by first-party product descriptions that name only a single-player experience.

Each of these is set out in full, beside the statement that killed it, on the debunked page. The one people ask about most — whether the date moves again — has its own page at will it be delayed again.

What is claimed about the August 2026 material specifically is on the leaks page.
