What is the state of Leonida in GTA 6?
An invented US state, and the whole game: everything announced for GTA 6 happens inside it. Seven places in it have names. None of them has a stated position.
Confirmed. Source: PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored), 24 Jun 2026. Checked .
Leonida is not a city with countryside attached. It is a state, and Rockstar describes it as home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond — which is the only first-party sentence that says anything at all about how the game is arranged.
Everything else known about the inside of it is seven names. That list has grown by nothing in fifteen months: no first-party material since May 2025 has named an eighth place.
Every place with a name
All seven entries are confirmed: each is a name Rockstar published, and the table gives the material that carried it and the date it was said. Five came off the location pages published with Trailer 2, one came from Trailer 1, and one arrived in a character bio rather than in the location material at all.
| Place | How Rockstar describes it | Where it was said | Said on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | The state’s principal city, returning to the series | Trailer 1 — Rockstar Games Trailer 1 | |
| Leonida Keys | A tropical archipelago | Location page — Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase) | |
| Grassrivers | A primordial wetland expanse | Location page — Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase) | |
| Port Gellhorn | Leonida’s forgotten coast | Location page — Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase) | |
| Ambrosia | The heart of Leonida | Location page — Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase) | |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Named, with no description given | Location page — Rockstar Games material published with Trailer 2 (via GTABase) | |
| Leonida Penitentiary | A prison, named in Rockstar’s bio for Lucia rather than in the location material | Character bio — Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), summarising Rockstar's official bios |
Rockstar's own descriptions are a phrase each, and those phrases are what appear in the second column. All but one of the seven carry one; Mount Kalaga National Park was published as a name and nothing else. They say what a place is. They do not say where it sits, how large it is, or how it connects to anything else — which is the whole of the official geography, and why no map of Leonida has ever been published to put them on.
The seventh entry is the one almost every other list of Leonida locations leaves out. Leonida Penitentiary is first-party, and it is missing elsewhere because it arrived in Rockstar's bio for Lucia rather than in the location material. A name is a name wherever it is printed. Where the prison sits is as unstated as everything else.
Rockstar's character bio has Lucia serving time at Leonida Penitentiary after an incident defending her family. Confirmed. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), summarising Rockstar's official bios, .
Is there an eighth name?
No place in the state of Leonida beyond the seven named here has been given a name in any first-party material. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: Seven names, and nothing new since 6 May 2025. Would settle it: Rockstar naming another place — on a location page, in a character bio, or in the Extended Look on 27 August 2026. Absence of any first-party statement.
Far more of the state has been shown than has been named, and the gap between those two is the single most useful thing to hold on to when reading anything else about this map.
Rockstar published around 70 screenshots and new character and location pages alongside Trailer 2. Confirmed. GTABase, .
That drop is the largest body of official material in existence — around seventy screenshots and two trailers between them — and it still names only five locations. Almost everything shown of the state carries no first-party name at all.
Fan atlases supply names for a great deal of it, and some of those names are repeated often enough to read as official. None of them is: a name can be plausible, widely used, and the only one anybody has for a place that obviously exists, and still not be a name Rockstar published.
Names that appear only in unverified material
Two kinds of claim circulate. The first is a number presented as a specification.
The widely repeated figure of "700+ enterable buildings" has no first-party source. Rumoured. Circulated by fan and aggregator sites, .
The second is material taken from a build, which is a different problem entirely: nobody outside Rockstar can establish that it is genuine, that it is current, or that a map inside a stolen build resembles the map that ships.
On 18 August 2026 a group calling itself CyberLeek posted material it claimed came from Grand Theft Auto VI, including footage and an image said to be the Leonida map. Rumoured. GameSpot, .
Nothing about that material has been established — not that it is false, but that nobody outside Rockstar can show it is genuine or current — and an unverified image of a map is not a source for what a place is called. What was claimed, and what has happened since, is set out on the August 2026 leaks.
Why so few places have names
Because there have only ever been three occasions on which Rockstar could have named one.
As of 21 August 2026 there have been two official trailers, with a third showing scheduled. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
Two trailers and one scheduled showing, with no press previews and no hands-on events in between, is a very small amount of material to name a state from. The next opportunity for a name to enter this list is a date on the calendar rather than a hope.
"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on 27 August 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
Until a name arrives with the Extended Look, seven is the number, and the honest answer to what else is in Leonida is that nobody outside Rockstar knows.
What the state is taken to be, and how large
Leonida is understood to be modelled on Florida, but Rockstar has never said so. Rumoured. Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI), .
That is a different kind of claim from the seven names: an identification a reader makes rather than something a studio said. Real-world counterparts sets out which places the fandom maps onto which, and on what basis.
The size of the map has never been stated. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a figure in square miles or square kilometres from Rockstar, or one printed on a storefront listing. Absence of any first-party statement.
Seven names and no dimensions is an odd shape for a body of information to have, and it is worth saying plainly why it persists: a name can be given away in a trailer at no cost, and a measurement cannot be given away at all until the thing being measured is finished. How big is the map sets out where the circulating figures come from and why none of them can be checked.
