When is the GTA 6 Extended Look?
27 August 2026. Netflix carries it first at 3pm ET, and Rockstar’s own channels show it free at 9pm ET the same evening — you need a subscription only to be early.
Confirmed. Source: Video Games Chronicle, 6 Aug 2026. Checked .
This is the third official showing in nearly three years, and it is believed to be the first time a major game trailer has premiered on a streaming service rather than on YouTube. Four of the clock times below were announced and the rest are conversions of them, and the two are kept apart: a converted time and an announced time are not the same kind of claim.
Date and times
The Extended Look debuts on Netflix six hours before anywhere else. Confirmed. Video Games Chronicle, .
Three clock times were announced, all of them for the Netflix premiere. The free showing on Rockstar's own channels has one announced time and no others, so the rest of the table below is arithmetic on that one Eastern figure.
| Showing | When | Status of this figure |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix premiere | 3pm ET, Thursday 27 August | Announced |
| Netflix premiere | 12pm PT, Thursday 27 August | Announced |
| Netflix premiere | 8pm BST, Thursday 27 August | Announced |
| YouTube and gta6.com | 9pm ET, Thursday 27 August | Announced. No subscription needed |
| YouTube and gta6.com | 6pm PT, Thursday 27 August | Converted, not announced |
| YouTube and gta6.com | 1am UTC, Friday 28 August | Converted, not announced |
| YouTube and gta6.com | 2am BST, Friday 28 August | Converted, not announced |
The 9pm ET showing is the one that needs no subscription, and it is the one with no times attached to it in any announcement. The United Kingdom gets the free showing overnight.
How long is it, and what is in it?
The runtime and exact contents of the Extended Look have not been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: the showing itself, on 27 August. Video Games Chronicle.
The thirty-minute figure that circulates is not a Rockstar number, and neither is the description of it as a narrated presentation. Both are speculation rather than announcement. The nearest thing to a first-party statement of contents is one clause in an earnings call.
Take-Two described the Netflix arrangement on its earnings call as "a groundbreaking partnership" for an extended gameplay reveal. Confirmed. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool), .
That phrase carries real weight — it is a publisher describing its own event to investors — and it is still a single phrase. It is also stronger than anything Rockstar has said about the material it has already released, which is where the wording starts to matter.
Rockstar states Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Confirmed. GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes), .
"In-game" and "gameplay" are different claims. Rockstar used the first for Trailer 2 — a cinematic cut from the game's engine, not a demonstration of playing it — while a great many viewers heard the second. Until the showing airs, the date and times are confirmed and the contents are unknown, and expectation is not evidence about the difference.
Not Trailer 3
The name Rockstar published is Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, and the announcement does not number the showing. Counting it as the third showing is accurate; calling it Trailer 3 is a guess about format dressed up as a name. Set against the other two, it is the odd one out in almost every respect.
Trailer 1 was released on 4 December 2023. Confirmed. The Washington Post, .
Trailer 2 was released on 6 May 2025, four days after the first delay. Confirmed. GTABase, .
"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on 27 August 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
Three showings in almost three years, with no press previews, hands-on events or trade-show demonstrations between them. The name Rockstar chose points away from a two-minute cut, which is the whole reason this showing is interesting. What circulates under the name Trailer 3, most of it fan-made, is sorted out on the trailers index.
Why the Netflix window is unusual
Netflix VP Brandon Riegg called the anticipation around GTA VI "unprecedented" and said Netflix was honoured to debut the material to members first. Confirmed. Video Games Chronicle, .
It is not really behind a subscription: it is six hours ahead of the free version. The structural objection is easy to state, though. For one evening the first showing sits on a paid service, and everyone without it spends those hours reading reactions to something they have not seen. How many people minded has never been measured.
Take-Two said Rockstar would begin marketing Grand Theft Auto VI in summer 2026. Confirmed. Take-Two Interactive investor relations, .
What is on the record is that the arrangement was described by the publisher as a partnership rather than a marketing accident, and that it belongs to a campaign schedule stated to investors three months in advance.
What one evening could settle
Four things are blank going in, and 27 August could fill any of them: how long the material runs; whether Rockstar calls it in-game, gameplay, or something worded to avoid both; whatever it states on screen or in the Newswire post beside it, whether a platform, a date, a mode or a named location; and how much of the rest it leaves untouched, which on current evidence is most of it. Nothing circulating before then answers any of the four — including the material claimed to have come out of the August 2026 leaks.
The other two official showings are on the trailers index and the Trailer 2 breakdown, and the date the whole campaign is running toward is on the release date page.
