Does GTA 6 have a wanted level?
Not known. No wanted level, star count, pursuit or arrest behaviour has been described by anybody with knowledge of the game, and no star count is recorded on this page at any grade.
Not known. Open since 24 Jun 2026; statements to cite: none. Would settle it: a Rockstar description of the system, or a first-party showing with the meter on screen. Source: Absence of any first-party statement. Checked .
If you arrived here after reading that the wanted level runs to six stars rather than five, or that police in this game track you by evidence rather than by knowing where you are, this is the position: no star count is recorded on this page at any grade — not as confirmed, and not as a rumour either.
The second of those is the unusual one, so it is worth stating why. Every star count in circulation traces to "somebody watched footage nobody can verify", which is not a source a reader can check against anything. A specific, memorable figure printed under a label travels further than the label does, and it would be quoted back long after the qualifier fell off. The honest form of this answer is that the field is empty.
What has not been described
Rockstar has published no description of a wanted level or a star count in Grand Theft Auto VI. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none — no scale and no star count in any first-party material. Would settle it: a Rockstar feature page naming a scale, or a first-party showing with the meter on screen. Absence of any first-party statement.
Rockstar has described no police pursuit, arrest or detection behaviour in Grand Theft Auto VI. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none — no pursuit, arrest or detection behaviour described. Would settle it: first-party text describing the system, or a Rockstar-presented showing in which it is visible. Absence of any first-party statement.
The Rockstar-authored PlayStation.Blog post and Take-Two's pre-order release both describe the game and its features at length. Neither mentions the wanted system, and no first-party material since has described any part of it.
The other way this gap gets filled is by assuming continuity: this studio's last several games handled pursuit a particular way, so this one will too. Continuity is a reasonable prior and a poor citation. It is not evidence about this game, and it does not become evidence because a studio has a house style.
Why nothing has been demonstrated
As of 21 August 2026 there have been two official trailers, with a third showing scheduled. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
That is the load-bearing line on this page. No hands-on event, no press preview and no gameplay demonstration of any kind means no mechanic in this game has been demonstrated to anybody outside Rockstar.
Rockstar states Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Confirmed. GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes), .
A cinematic captured in the engine is not a demonstration of a system. It is a sequence of shots chosen to look good. A patrol car in frame is evidence that a patrol car was rendered, and nothing about what happens when you are seen.
Nothing has been said about campaign length, mission count, or how the two protagonists are switched between. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Absence of any first-party statement.
The same wall stands in front of every question about how this game is played. Nothing about structure, length or the handling of the two leads has been described either.
Where the current claims come from
Where a description of the wanted system is offered today with any specificity, the trail leads to one of two bodies of unverified material. This site does not host, reproduce or describe the contents of either, and does not use them as evidence for a feature.
On 18 September 2022 a hacker posted about 90 videos of work-in-progress GTA VI footage, roughly 50 minutes of material, to GTAForums. Confirmed. Axios, .
Rockstar confirmed a "network intrusion" on 19 September 2022 and said it did not anticipate long-term effects on development. Confirmed. Axios, .
On 18 August 2026 a group calling itself CyberLeek posted material it claimed came from Grand Theft Auto VI, including footage and an image said to be the Leonida map. Rumoured. GameSpot, .
Take-Two has pursued DMCA takedowns and court filings seeking account records over the August 2026 leak. Confirmed. GameSpot, .
CyberLeek published a manifesto framing the leak as a protest against digital-only distribution and game monetisation, alongside promotion of a cryptocurrency token. Rumoured. Forbes, .
Rockstar has issued no public statement about the August 2026 leak. Confirmed. Den of Geek, .
Note what the takedowns do and do not tell you: legal action shows that a rights holder is treating the material as its problem, which is not the same as a statement that any particular clip is genuine or current. What the August episode amounts to is set out on the August 2026 leaks.
The two bodies of material are not equivalent, and the difference decides what either could possibly establish about a wanted system.
| September 2022 | August 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Authenticity | Established. Rockstar confirmed the intrusion. | Not established. No first-party confirmation of any kind. |
| Rockstar's response | A public statement. | Takedowns, and no public statement. |
| Age relative to release | Over four years, with two announced delays inside the gap. | Months, but of material nobody has authenticated. |
| What it could establish about the wanted system | What a 2022 build did. Not what the shipping game does. | Nothing, until somebody establishes what it is. |
On 6 November 2025 Rockstar delayed the game a second time, from 26 May 2026 to 19 November 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games (official X post), .
Rockstar said the extra months would let it "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect". Confirmed. Rockstar Games (official X post), .
That is the whole force of the first column. Systems are tuned, rebuilt and cut inside a window like that as a matter of routine, and Rockstar's own stated reason for the second delay was time to finish the game to the standard it expects. A wanted system seen in a 2022 build is evidence about a 2022 build — a genuinely interesting thing, and a different thing from the game people will buy.
What would settle it
Exactly two things would settle the question. First-party text describing the system — a Rockstar Newswire post, a storefront feature list, an official mechanic page. Or a first-party showing in which the system is visible on screen while Rockstar presents it as its own material.
"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on 27 August 2026. Confirmed. Rockstar Games Newswire, .
Take-Two described the Netflix arrangement on its earnings call as "a groundbreaking partnership" for an extended gameplay reveal. Confirmed. Take-Two Q1 FY2027 earnings call transcript (The Motley Fool), .
The runtime and exact contents of the Extended Look have not been announced. Not known. Open since ; statements to cite: none. Video Games Chronicle.
That showing is the first scheduled opportunity for the second of those two things, and Take-Two has described it to investors as an extended gameplay reveal. If the system appears in it, this page changes the same day — with a date, a source, and a grade that finally says something other than unknown.
Details of the showing are on the Extended Look, what has been shown so far is on the gameplay page, the sourced differences between the two games are on the comparison page, and the source policy this page applies is written out in full.
